The Hazardous Identification Testing System (HITS) is invaluable to conducting research for hazardous materials incidents. HITS combines numerous, previously scattered reference sources into one more accessible tool. Using HITS, a technician would first conduct basic testing for chemical properties, flammability, and solubility before moving into advanced testing with detection equipment to classify a chemical into a chemistry group. Although a technician may not be able to know the exact name of the substance in question, they should be able to recognize the general group in under 15 minutes.

This course addresses competencies in NFPA 470 and is designed for experienced technicians familiar with most terms and equipment used in hazardous materials response. HITS training is ideal for Fire Service (Hazardous Materials Technician or higher), Emergency Management field response personnel, Law Enforcement, and Industrial Emergency Response Personnel.

The format will be instructor led, in-class with practical demonstrations. Pricing options include one 8-hour day or three 8-hour days to accommodate three shifts. The course is limited to twenty-five students per day.
