The original AreaRAE made a good run. After its release in 2001, the wireless gas meter became a staple of fire departments and hazmat teams around the country.
The meter's broad range of available sensors, top tier PID technology, Gamma detection, and unparalleled wireless capability helped revolutionize gas detection. But all good things must eventually come to an end.
Last year, Honeywell—now the parent company of RAE Systems—announced the end of life for the AreaRAE. While replacement parts are expected to be available until November 30, 2019, it is recommended that all AreaRAE users migrate to one of the two newer, more capable AreaRAE models: the AreaRAE Plus or the AreaRAE Pro.
The new AreaRAE Plus and Pro expand on the solid foundation laid by the classic models. They offer an even broader selection of sensor and PID options, and increase the number of gases the gas monitor can detect at the same time from 5 to 7 and adds the ability for environmental monitoring with the new RAEMet sensor.
The AreaRAE Plus and Pro also expand the line's wireless capability with standard long-range ISM radio, a secondary Mesh radio to communicate to other wireless instruments, and optional Wi-Fi connectivity.
Just as with the older AreaRAEs, the new models are available as either single units or in a four-unit Rapid Deployment Kit. All Safe Industries has also developed a two-unit RDK as an alternative for people who want a smaller, more manageable form factor.
RAE Systems periodically runs trade-in programs that make upgrading to new AreaRAEs even simpler.
